On January 6, 2021, Donald Trump invited his supporters to march to the Capitol to stop counting the Electoral College votes he lost.
Trump sat in the White House dining room and watched. At the same time, his supporters razed the Capitol Building, broke windows and doors, and tried to physically capture and harm Congresspeople like Nancy Pelosi and then-Vice President Mike Pence.
Trump finally told his supporters to go home “peacefully” but never took responsibility for the attempted coup or the lives of one supporter and eventually four Capitol police officers as a result of the violence perpetrated by the supporters.
At the time, we were worried that Trump would not leave office voluntarily, although he did by noon on January 20. As he left, he illegally took government documents that he had shown to unauthorized friends. He refused to return them—the court case against Trump for keeping those documents ended before the trial started.
Although he lost scores of court cases about his 2020 election loss, Trump continues to claim that the election was fraudulent and that he was the true winner of that election. Even now, as Trump is in his second administration, he is claiming that he will run for an unconstitutional third term.
That is the danger of this Trump administration; it is openly going against the Constitution that he twice swore to uphold. Trump and his officials are openly doing unlawful things. They are breaking the law and daring people to do anything about it.
The United States has three independent and co-equal branches of government. Still, the Trump administration is attempting to expand its presidential powers and completely ignores the authority of the legislative and judicial branches.
Trump has eliminated the legally mandated Secret Service protection for Joe Biden’s surviving children, Hunter and Ashely Biden. All of Trump’s children had Secret Service protection when he was out of office, and they still have that protection today.
Trump has allowed Elon Musk, the unelected billionaire who paid more than $288 MILLION to his campaign, to set up a department called the “Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)” without congressional approval or oversight. Completely without legal authority, DOGE has fired hundreds of thousands of federal workers and closed or downsized many government agencies.
Meanwhile, Trump has done nothing to lower grocery prices, and Musk felt comfortable enough to give TWO Nazi salutes at Trump’s inauguration ceremonies.
In addition to dismantling the United States government, Trump has decided that he dislikes diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives at universities, government agencies, schools, and organizations. He has permitted himself to refuse federal funding for anyone or any organization he thinks has DEI activity. To him, that means anything that involves Black people or women, although that is not the totality of DEI.
Many schools and organizations that conduct all kinds of research, especially scientific and health research, have shut down and/or fired their employees. Similarly, any activities or organizations specifically targeted at Black people are being canceled.
Tens of thousands of doctors, other health workers, scientists, and researchers have been fired, which has had adverse effects nationally and internationally.
Other policies implemented for the ongoing coup include:
The erosion of democratic norms
The weakening of the Constitutional checks and balances laws
The spread of societal division and mistrust
This has all happened in the two months since Trump took office on January 20, 2025.
Along with Elon Musk, who was born and raised in apartheid South Africa, Trump, who himself is an avowed racist, has unabashedly started removing anything having to do with Black and other non-white, non-male people. Black Alumni associations and organizations, mentions of Black people on the Department of Defense website, Black organizations at companies and federal agencies, etc., are all under attack because Trump believes they are “illegally” practicing DEI.
Americans from both major political parties are enraged and concerned that policies that are similar to South African apartheid are being implemented today:
Voter Suppression
Economic Inequality
Police Brutality
We do not have the luxury of waiting until the 2026 midterm elections and hope that the Democrats regain the majority in the House and Senate. As the late Congressman John Lewis instructed, we must work now to stop and reverse these Trump administration policies and activities.
So, what are our choices at this time to halt the destruction of our democratic republic?
Civil Engagement: At the heart of a thriving democracy is an active and informed citizenry. We need to encourage voter participation, civic education, and community engagement to counterbalance efforts to disenfranchise or divide.
Policy Reform: We have to ensure that our elected representatives address economic and social inequities through comprehensive policy reform that can help bridge racial divides and foster a more inclusive society.
Strengthening Institutions: We must protect the integrity of democratic institutions and ensure they remain accountable to the people by advocating for transparent governance and robust checks and balances.

Trump is so focused on being Putin's voice that he has done nothing Presidential, but abuse Executive Orders to destroy the Country from within!!! Why was the rigged election not investigated!!! Musk made over 11M ballots disappear in the swing states and no one investigated it!!!
Congress is just as guilty as Trump in committing treason and trashing human rights. All of our elected representatives in Congress deserve to be prosecuted.
