I’ll confess this upfront: even though I do believe in God, I haven’t been to church in, oh, let’s say, quite a while. It’s safe to say I’m not the most observant of believers, and that’s on me. So, I’m not in the best position to judge anybody else’s level of commitment to being a good Christian.
OK.
But can I just maybe ask a question? How can someone who is a convicted – and unrepentant – rapist, convicted on 34 criminal counts, known to lie, cheat, and steal on a scale that redefines the scale, still claim to be a Christian? Can anybody presto! be a Christian just by saying, “Hey, I’m a Christian?” I’m not saying Christianity should be an exclusive Members Only club just for the cool kids, but isn’t a practicing Christian at least supposed to make an effort to be decent? Doesn’t it kind of miss the point of Christianity when someone who professes to love the Bible and God and wants to make America safe for Christians does everything in his power to glorify – maybe even enshrine - every sin he ever committed? Isn’t that a little weird?
Yeah. Trump.
So perhaps you heard that earlier this month, Trump said that he would create a Faith Office. Not a joke. Then he appointed a woman named Paula White-Cain, a pastor, to head up that office. Pastor White Cain has some rather strange beliefs for a Christian, at least in my opinion. For example, in 2020, she prayed for the miscarriage of "all Satanic pregnancies," according to a February 7 article in Newsweek online. Satanic? Really? So, is Satan running around out here getting unsuspecting women pregnant? Why haven’t we heard about this before?
In the same article, Cain is quoted to have said on X: "I have been appointed to lead the White House Faith Office. The office will work alongside Attorney General Pam Bondi to combat discrimination against Christians in federal institutions and ensure religious liberties are upheld across the country!"
But what discrimination against which Christians in which federal institutions? Trump is supposed to be the Christian-In-Chief, and I’d say things are working out pretty well for him, right? At least so far. No discernible anti-Trump discrimination that I can see, dodged all those pesky lawsuits, made his way back to lead the most powerful nation on Earth. For a second time. Of course, the rest of us may go up in smoke, but oh well. Shit, as they say, happens.
But let’s get to where the good pastor says she wants to be about the business of ensuring that religious liberties are upheld across the country. So that has to include Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and Sikhs, right, Pastor?
Pastor?
Because those would be the other major religions representing the vast majority of the rest of the faith-based world, so when you say you want to protect religious liberties, of course, you’re including those other DEI religions because…
Damn.
Nevermind! Just kidding!

And....what's called "Christianity" isn't Christianity...
Dr. Jemar Tisby quotes Frederick Douglass re the distinction:
"What I have said respecting and against religion, I mean strictly to apply to the slaveholding religion of this land, and with no possible reference to Christianity proper; for, between the Christianity of this land, and the Christianity of Christ, I recognize the widest possible difference--so wide, that to receive the one as good, pure, and holy, is of necessity to reject the other as bad, corrupt, and wicked." ~Frederick Douglass,

And a big fan of pluralistic democracy!
Maybe she will spur the Christian-in-Chief to become familiar with the 10 commandments, by my count he has broken at least 6 of 'em.
