The Top Five Reasons to Invest in a Business Coach
Learn to Maximize the Skills You Already Have
Learn to Maximize the Skills You Already Have
As an entrepreneur or small business owner, there are two circumstances to recognize when it is time for you to work with a business coach: 1) when you are finally willing to grow your business, and 2) when you see a gap between where you are now and where you want to be in the near future.
When you invest your time and money in working with a business coach, you will be able to solve problems, turn your business around, increase your sales and profitability, and design and implement an effective plan of action.
Do You Need a Business Coach or a Business Consultant?
While the terms business coach and business consultant sound similar, there are differences between the two professionals.
The main difference between coaching and consulting is that coaching pulls out answers from the client while consulting tells the client what to do.
When you work with a business coach, you will receive specific strategies for uncovering your answers on your own business plan.
When you work with a business consultant, you will receive the actual tools that can support you in moving forward and executing your action plan.
A business coach focuses on the individual business owner as the head of the company.
A business consultant focuses on day-to-day processes, teams, and other aspects of the business.
A business coach helps the client to find their own answers to their problems and challenges.
A business consultant provides advice and education for specific tools, skills, and knowledge.
A business coach does not necessarily need to have experience or expertise in the client’s exact industry, as the services and relationships are more broad and general in nature.
A business consultant usually has expertise in the areas where the client seeks to learn and grow.
What Does A Business Consultant Do?
A business consultant is an expert you hire for help with your business. Your consultant will teach you the skills you do not know, will analyze your business as it is now, and will create a tangible action plan for you to implement.
What Does A Business Coach Do?
A business coach works with you to develop the skills you already have. They work to bring out the “best” of you. A business coach helps you develop your purpose, brainstorms with you and motivates you in your business. Overall, the result is you having a “plan of action” for your business (after brainstorming), and your coach will support you as you implement it.
Working with a Business Coach
In this story, we will discuss how a business coach can help you and your creative, solo, or small business. There are many reasons to hire a business coach, but we’ll talk about what I have found to be the top five for my clients since 2008.

1. Another Set of Eyes
There is a famous saying: “You can’t see the forest for the trees.” Many entrepreneurs stay so busy managing the day-to-day activities of running their businesses that they don’t have or take the time to look at the “big picture.” It is so important that as a business owner, you take the time to step back and regularly work on your business instead of just in your business.
Working on your business means making sure that you have the goals, systems, and strategies in place to effectively analyze your business results and make the needed changes for improvement. Working with a business coach will help you to take that time, put things in place, and gather and learn from the necessary data.
2. Moving Out of Their Comfort Zone
Sometimes business owners like you get so used to doing things one way, you can be consciously or even unconsciously resistant to making changes, even minor ones. Working with your business coach may be just the push you need to try something new or to positively tweak some of your tried and true methods.
Part of what your business coach does is keeping up with the current trends in many of the areas of your business.
3. Receiving An Objective Opinion
Many times, small business owners and solopreneurs are working alone, without a way to get assistance or help from outside observers. By hiring a business coach, you will receive an honest and objective opinion about the direction you and your company are going.
4. Receiving Additional Motivation and Accountability
Entrepreneurs and small business owners are naturally self-motivated; that’s how and why they got into business in the first place. But sometimes, motivating yourself is not enough. Your business coach can also act as your accountability partner. When you know that you have to regularly report to someone else as you work to achieve your goals, you will be more likely to move forward.
5. Help in Keeping Focused
Often entrepreneurs and small business owners are so busy working “in” their businesses, they often neglect working “on” their businesses. Your business coach can help you to stay focused on the things that really matter for the growth and maintenance of your business. If you start veering off to several less important tangents, your business coach will help you to bring your attention back to the things you should really be focusing on.
