Issue #932 The Choice, Thursday, September 25, 2025
He said it himself during his phenomenal opening monologue on Tuesday night’s show; Jimmy Kimmel said it’s not his show that’s important, nor does he harbor any illusions that he can change anyone’s mind. What is important is that we live in a country where a show like Jimmy Kimmel’s can exist. Or a show like Charlie Kirk’s.
It’s about the protection of freedom of speech. And for Trump, he may want to take note of the fact that when the likes of Ted Cruz step up to defend Jimmy Kimmel, then he just may have committed a rather major error in judgment. As Kimmel said hilariously on his show, Trump might have to release the Epstein files now just to distract attention from this screwup.
Who knows where this will all wind up with Kimmel and the other late-night hosts in Trump’s sights; maybe he will crawl away and try to figure a way to reconfigure reality to make this look like a victory, as he has done any number of failures before, or maybe he will double down. But the pressures that forced Kimmel back onto the air in just such a short time did not just come from angry viewers, trust me. As helpful and important as it is for us as individuals to speak up, a rapid sea change like what we just witnessed requires more; it requires the concerted push of substantial and very influential forces coming from high-level boardrooms and behind closed doors that most of us will never enter. And I would venture to guess that these are not the kind of influential forces that tend to vote Democrat. And when those forces turn against a particular elected leader, that tends not to be a good thing.
This is not about Jimmy Kimmel, a show I never even watched until now. This is about telling us we don’t have the right to watch Jimmy because, as Jimmy said, “Our leader can’t take a joke.”
But there’s no way I could possibly lay this out any better than Kimmel did himself, so if you haven’t seen it already? Take a listen to the video above.

Thanks for posting that. With my top-notch technical skills I managed to not tape the actual show, but if you look at this YouTube version, you'll notice that many millions of people saw this version, in addition to the 20 million or so who saw the show Tuesday night. And Kimmel played it perfectly: Sweetness and light, no hate. A bit of mockery.
