Issue #487 Keith’s SciFi Musings Sunday, February 4, 2024
“Where did you say this place is supposed to be again? Shouldn’t we be there by now?”
“Next stop, man. Not far.”
“That’s what you said 20 minutes ago, Charlie.”
“Yeah, well. You know what they say, right? Good things come to those who wait.”
“Yeah. Said by somebody who never had to wait. Probably one of those Tibetan monk types who just sit on a mountaintop all day thinking of deep things to say.”
“Aside from the fact that what you said is probably racist, I’m pretty sure those Tibetan monk types do a whole lot more than that. Besides, George, what the hell do you know about Tibetan monks? Or even Tibet?”
George had been my best friend since grade school. We both managed to finish high school somehow, definitely some kinda miracle, and then we made the decision that college probably wasn’t for us so we chose living life on the edge instead. Actually, college probably made that choice for us since neither one of us could have lasted another four years spending all that time behind a desk.
Anyway, that was three years ago. Today was our day off from our Positions of High and Exalted Influence in the fast food industry, so we decided to catch the bus to this brand new museum called The Museum of Future Past. Normally guys like George and me didn’t go to museums or anything like that. We were baseball game kinda guys when we could afford the tickets, which wasn’t often anymore. A decent paycheck wasn’t one of the many perks that came with our positions of influence. But the thing is, we kept hearing all these crazy things about this place from some of the guys at work and other places where you don’t normally hear folks talking about the last time they went to the museum. The kind of things that would appeal to two guys who lived life on the edge like me and George.
“This is our stop,” I said.
“Finally,” said George sounding all grumpy as we got off the bus.
“So where…Jesus. Is that it?”
