The Choice: Intended Consequences
Trump and MAGA fully intend to hurt middle and lower-class Americans
Issue #880 The Choice, Tuesday, July 1, 2025
We have all heard the phrase “unintended consequences,” which refers to outcomes that are not the ones foreseen or intended by a purposeful action. However, MAGA, the Trump administration, and Project 2025 definitely have intended consequences to reinforce the strategic thinking and planning involved in achieving their specific outcomes.
During the 2016 campaign season, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton specifically warned about the dangers of a right-wing majority on the Supreme Court, and as we have seen, the current Court has erased several historical rights, including the right to abortion and women’s healthcare.
During the 2024 campaign season, Democrats also warned that a second Trump administration would be much worse than the first, because the “guardrails” were removed and members of the current administration are unqualified sycophants who are doing everything to destroy the agencies and freedoms that make America work for the people.
Unfortunately, in 2024, too many Democrats and independents just focused on Gaza and ignored all of the other important issues. A possible “unintended consequence” of that focus is that the situation in Gaza is worse than ever, because Trump told Netanyahu to “do whatever you want.” Israel is now on track to totally eliminate Gaza and the Christian and Muslim people in the region of Palestine.
Also in 2024, we were warned about “Project 2025,” the framework for which has been in progress for years. The entire purpose of this program is to destroy America as we know it now and replace it with a white-only country that only benefits the rich and powerful, and eliminates everything that is meant to help the ordinary American people.
Tax Cuts and Cuts to Social Services
In the entire 249-year history of this country, more than 25% of the total deficit occurred during the first Trump administration. The two foreign wars launched by George W. Bush and the management of the Civil War by Abraham Lincoln resulted in larger national debts, but Trump didn’t launch any new wars, but like George W. Bush, he did initiate huge tax cuts for the wealthy.
The current “Big Beautiful Bill” now being debated in Congress not only keeps the 2017 Trump tax cuts in place, but it deliberately seeks to reduce or completely eliminate several agencies and programs such as Medicaid, SNAP food assistance, and any programs that include DEI or other policies that Trump doesn’t like.
The Republicans intend to inflict hurt on millions of Americans by making them pay for their tax cuts. They do not care that people will lose their health insurance, hospitals and assisted living facilities will close, or that millions of children, disabled, or elderly people will experience reduced food assistance.
Immigration
Before every election, Trump has famously said there are “caravans of immigrants” coming over the border. Immigration and birthright citizenship are important to Trump and MAGA only because the current majority of immigrants are brown and Black. They are trying so hard to keep a white majority in this country because they can see that they are quickly becoming the minority.
“Immigration” didn’t matter when we taxpayers paid to bring fifty or so white South Africans here because they lied and said their farms were in trouble because of Black people.
“Immigration” didn’t matter when most people who immigrated here were Western Europeans, but the Chinese, Germans, Italians, Irish, and Eastern Europeans were denigrated and discriminated against for decades.
They are arresting people who are attending their immigration hearings and just working at their jobs or running errands, and threatening to deport them or put them in a concentration camp in Florida.
This push for an authoritarian state in America is intentional, and the consequences that will hurt most Americans are intentional.
