Yesterday, January 9, 2025, former President Jimmy Carter was eulogized at the Washington National Cathedral.
Donald Trump was at the funeral, and with each description of President Carter from the various speakers, it was so very obvious that he was the total opposite of Donald Trump.
As person after person came up to the podium, the character of Jimmy Carter was described. Trump was obviously viscerated even though his name wasn’t specifically mentioned.
Meanwhile, also on Thursday:
The 11th Circuit denied the hold on the Jack Smith report, once again overturning a decision by Judge Canon.
The NY Appeals Court denied stopping Trump’s sentencing, which took place this morning.
The Supreme Court also denied stopping Trump’s sentencing, which took place this morning. Chief Justice Roberts and Associate Justice Amy Coney Barrett joined the three liberal justices in the 5-4 decision.
Although he will not have to pay any fines, will not be restricted in any way, and will not go to jail, Trump will always be known as a convicted felon.
The GOP used to say they were “the party of law and order,” but Trump and the MAGA Republicans are just ignoring the rule of law as much as possible when it could be applied to them or their actions.
It has also been revealed that Charlie Kirk and Don Jr., during their recent trip to Greenland, found homeless people literally on the street and offered them a free restaurant meal if they would pose for a photo wearing red MAGA hats. The photo was supposed to “prove” that Greenland was anxious to be taken over by Trump.
In ten days, when Trump lies about “upholding the Constitution” and protecting America from all dangers, domestic and foreign while being sworn in, he and the Republicans will begin to ensure their goal of destroying our Democratic Republic and all of the agencies and people Trump doesn’t like.
They want to turn over immigration to the states, privatize veterans’ healthcare, and repeal the 1993 National Voting Rights Act, the 2010 Affordable Care Act, and the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act.
They also want to withdraw the U.S. from the World Health Organization and NATO, increase oil and gas production on federal lands, abolish the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), allow states to spend federal education money on private school vouchers, and remove the protection of transgender rights from schools.
Trump also wants Kash Patel to act as his personal attorney and the Justice Department to prosecute and possibly jail anyone he believes is his “enemy.”
Some of the plans and campaign promises by Trump and Musk are being completely forgotten or toned down:
Lower egg prices and immigrants eating cats and dogs are practically forgotten. (High egg prices are primarily due to the proliferation of bird flu.)
Musk has announced that he and DOGE won’t be able to eliminate $2T from the $1.7T current budget.
Trump won’t have anywhere the local support needed to deport the millions of hard-working immigrants (documented or not) he thought he would have, and companies that depend on immigrant labor are pushing back.
Although it only takes 51 Senate votes to confirm Cabinet positions, there may be 2-3 Republicans who just will not vote for some of Trump’s most controversial choices.
So, yes things will be bad, very bad, after January 20. But there are ways we can make it through these next four years:
It won’t really be four years because the entire House and 1/3 of the Senate are up for election/re-election in 2026. Congresspeople are more worried about their elections than they are about Trump.
Trump can’t “executive order” everything, and most of his desired changes must come through Congress or a Constitutional amendment. This will be harder than Trump realizes.
The States run all federal elections, not the Federal government. Even if you are a “blue dot in a red state,” there are things you can watch and do at your local and state level to deny Trump as much power as possible.
President Biden has appointed, and the Democratic Senate has confirmed the most Federal judges of any administration in history, and the majority of them are people of color and women.
Watch the sources for the information you receive. Almost all of the legacy media are in Trump’s hands; look elsewhere.
DON’T GIVE IN OR GIVE UP. That’s exactly what Trump and MAGA want you to do; that’s why they’re throwing out all of those distractions, like taking Canada, the Panama Canal, and Greenland by military force and renaming the Gulf of Mexico.
