There are really more than five, but it would take several posts to list them all.

As we are inundated with lies and gaslighting this week during the Republican National Convention, some people are still calling for President Joe Biden to be replaced as the Democratic nominee.
Many of these people are looking at the “polls” four months ahead of the election, some of which show Trump leading (within the margin of error).
Ignoring the results of the primary election and causing chaos by replacing Joe would be disastrous at this point. Joe is the only one to beat Trump in the popular vote and the Electoral College.
We Dems have enough to do to win this election, Kamala would never throw Joe under the bus to run herself, and no one else has Joe’s experience, wisdom, and national and international reputation. It is almost impossible for “someone else” to start and grow a successful campaign from scratch at this time.
There is so much to be concerned about if there is a second Trump administration, but here are my top five:
Usually, presidential candidates choose their vice-presidential nominee as a “balance” for them, and constitutionally cannot choose someone from the same state. That didn’t stop Trump from thinking of choosing Marco Rubio from Florida. The #1 job of the vice president is to be qualified and ready to immediately step into the presidency if necessary. Trump has now chosen Senator J.D. Vance from Ohio, who is exactly like Trump in his politics and personality, even though Vance called Trump “America’s Hitler” just a few years ago. He is nowhere near qualified to be president. I look forward to the Vice Presidential debate where Kamala will wipe the floor with Vance.
The Republicans have accepted Project 2025 by the ultra-right Heritage Foundation as their platform. Project 2025 has now been re-named “Agenda 47” as in working for Trump to be the 47th president. Project/Agenda 47 is a 900-page document that if implemented would completely re-work American government and American history to reflect their extremist policies and beliefs, as well as help establish 78-year-old Trump as a “permanent president” who would replace everyone and everything to reflect being loyal only to him, not to the Constitution.
While falsely accusing the Democrats as “cheaters,” the Republicans are trying every way possible to cheat in the upcoming election as they can. They have not won the popular presidential vote since 2004 (TWENTY years ago), and because they know that their policies are not popular with the majority of Americans, they are trying to win the election and implement minority rule anyway. They are suppressing the vote in as many states as possible, making it harder for dem-leaning people to register, purging the voter rolls, and trying to eliminate absentee ballots, ballot drop boxes, and early voting access in as many areas as possible. Just as Trump did in 2020, they are already declaring that they will not accept the results of the election when Trump loses, and will refuse to certify the election in any way they can, just as they did for the last presidential election.
The Republicans want to roll back or eliminate every right guaranteed by the Constitution they can. They want to make America into a Christian nationalist country. They’ve already stacked the federal courts (including the SCOTUS) with far-right-wing judges, and a 2nd Trump administration would add more of those judges nationwide. Trump would convince Clarence Thomas to resign and then appoint the very young and very inexperienced Aileen Cannon to a lifetime SCOTUS appointment. They’ve left reproductive rights and abortion to the states, and want to implement those policies nationwide, including necessary abortion care for women who have suffered miscarriages. They want to make laws that give fetuses “personhood” rights. They want to eliminate marriage equality, religious equality, voting rights, and even contraception access. J.D. Vance said that abused women in disastrous marriages should not divorce, and many Republicans want to eliminate no-contest divorces. They want to eliminate DEI initiatives and American history that do not put white men first and foremost. They want to eliminate public schools and mandate military education in all middle and senior high schools. They also want to eliminate the birthright citizenship guaranteed by the 14th Amendment because they don’t like all of the brown and Black immigrants who come to America and then have their children here. They are already trying to use “birtherism” against Kamala Harris as they did with Barack Obama, attempting to say that even though she was born here, she is not a true American citizen because one of her parents was an immigrant. Four of Trump’s five children, and Trump himself (whose mother immigrated from Scotland), have/had one immigrant parent, but facts like that don’t matter.
The United States Constitution is the law of the land, but most Republicans want to make the Christian bible the foundational law of America instead. They want to take us back to the 1950s or before, when there were no social services, no Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid, no civil and voting rights, no forced integration, and no women’s rights, and when the only people, history, and events that counted were centered on white male privilege. They don’t want any business regulations, they don’t want any federal agencies that aren’t controlled by them, and they are deathly afraid of white people becoming the minority in this country in the next six years. They believe in the “Great (white) Replacement Theory” that caused several white males to commit mass murders. They want Republicans in charge of all state legislatures and federal, state, and local judiciaries. They want to ignore any or all of the Constitutional amendments that they don’t agree with, including the First, which guarantees religious freedom (they think that Christianity should be the only recognized religion), the 2nd Amendment, which states that gun rights are for the official militia (today’s National Guard), not for every Tom, Dick, and Harry, the 14th amendment which guarantees equal rights for all, and the 22nd amendment with limits a president to two total full terms. Trump has not only said he wants to be a “dictator on day one,” but has also stated that the 2024 election would be the last one because he intends to be president for life.
Although most Republicans ironically declared their surprise at the attempted assassination of Trump by a young white male registered Republican with an AR-style rifle, we know that political violence against Democrats and liberals/progressives is their desire.
We have much work to do to not only ensure that Joe and Kamala win re-election by a wide margin, but also to prepare for the political violence that will ensue when Trump and the Republicans lose the presidency, the House, and the Senate in November 2024.
