I swear I could have watched that debate all night long. The only thing that might have dimmed my ecstatic joy at watching Orange Boy get his ass handed to him by an Afro-Asian child of immigrants for two hours was the possibility of running out of popcorn.
Because you had to have popcorn to watch a spectacle like this. The ruling class Romans had their festivities watching how poor folks fared against hungry lions in a coliseum. For me, watching Kamala Harris devour Trump was much more satisfying because:
No one got eaten by lions.
While roasting Orange Boy on a spit over an open fire fueled by Trump’s own ignorance, Kamala may have just saved America.
Tuesday night wasn’t just Kamala Harris’ finest hour in the campaign so far; it was Joe Biden’s revenge. Revenge for Trump’s refusal to admit defeat in 2020, for his refusal to go away, and for all the massive headaches, distractions, and disruptions his antics have caused over the past four years, not to mention the four years he was in office. But also revenge against all those in the news media and elsewhere who clamored for him to exit the race after he experienced a substandard 90 minutes in a poor debate performance against Trump out of four years of extraordinary accomplishment that the media all but ignored. Because none of those naysayers even considered the possibility of Kamala Harris as his replacement. They just wanted some fantasy candidate named Anybody But Joe.
So Joe decided that if he had to exit the stage, he would flip the script and make the ultimate decision about who would be his successor in such a way that permitted no second-guessing, no questions, no dissents. It would be Kamala. Period. Either get on board with my Vice President or get out of the damned way.
So everyone got on board, or at least pretended to so as not to be exposed as a member of the team of idiots who actually believed any other choice would have stood a chance against Trump with virtually no time left on the clock and no infrastructure in place to mount a credible campaign.
Joe handed Kamala the ship’s wheel and blew a virtual storm cloud into her sails, propelling her forward because he knew what the doubters refused to acknowledge; Kamala was not to be fucked with.
It’s as simple and direct as that. The woman is a warrior; you take her on at your peril. Biden has said that he chose Kamala to be his Vice President because he knew she had what it took to be president at a moment’s notice, and he was experienced enough to know the requirements. He knew those requirements far better than any of the doubters because of that experience.
Now everyone knows that Kamala Harris was the only human being capable of following someone like Joe Biden, who history will judge as one of America’s greatest presidents and most consequential and transitional figures in American history. All other considerations were mere folly.
And yet.
As masterful as Kamala’s performance was on Tuesday, as masterfully as she has performed ever since the seamless handoff of the baton from her boss on July 21, and despite all the incredible energy and excitement that her candidacy has generated, the polls still seem to indicate that this race is close to tied or, at best, within the margin of error. Virtually no one – aside from myself and a few others - thinks Kamala will win this by a wide margin.
A word or two about that.
We all know what we saw Tuesday night. It was a real-time cremation of Donald Trump on live TV. As MSNBC commentator Joy Reid said during the post-debate analysis, Kamala destroyed Trump in no uncertain terms.
We also know Trump’s record and his foul-smelling baggage, all of which is simply too much to bother repeating all over again. We know that he has been losing his mind publicly for at least the past two years. That most of his money is going to cover his legal bills. That he is a rapist. That he is convicted of 34 felony counts. And so much more. So much more.
But this race is supposed to be close?
Ladies and gentlemen, I’ll simply say this: Are the polls right? Does this race really go down to the wire? Then we have a problem of monumental proportions that a Harris/Walz victory alone simply cannot solve. If that many Americans, after all of this, still prefer Trump, then the road to healing and recovery – and, more importantly, a functional democracy - will be extraordinarily difficult.
Which is where we come in. You and me. Operation Educate the Masses. To paraphrase former President Barack Obama, we are the change that we have been waiting for.
Stay tuned.

Every time people said to
me that Joe Biden was too old, they followed it up with "and we don't want Kamala of course."
Made me GD crazy.
I didn't trust that Joe and Kamala are so much smarter than the chattering class that they had a plan.
I'm still not resting easy because Republican rat fuckers are going to rat fuck but OMG, that debate was everything I wanted and so much more.
She is more than ready to be president.
Did you hear Lawrence O'Donnell on this topic?
