Issue #217 OpEd January 9, 2023
There is an old saying/warning to be careful of what you wish for because you just might get it. Pretty self-explanatory…kinda.
It means making sure of the things you want and that you pursue in life. Think of the dog that chases the car onto the freeway (the very busy freeway, let’s say in New York City or Los Angeles where freeways rule) because that dog is determined to take a bite out that particular car’s tire. No other tire will do. It has to be that tire on that car right now. You’re getting the picture, right?
So then along comes this other car, and the driver of this other car doesn’t see this very determined dog that just entered the freeway in pursuit of this tasty tire that is attached to that car that has only just now swerved directly in front of him. Bad words get said, impolite gestures are made (not by the dog, by the humans), and then, in a tragic accident, the dog is…well…prematurely promoted to the next plane of existence.
Well gosh, professor? Why did that happen?

The article continues…
Sit still my child, and I will tell you. It is because dogs were not meant to run on freeways. Not even in pursuit of tasty tires.
And Kevin McCarthy was not meant to be Speaker of the House of Representatives. Not for any reason. Doesn’t matter that he won (?) after a humiliating 15 rounds of voting, because it’s clear he isn’t qualified for the job. It’s even clear to other Republicans. Because if you’re willing to do absolutely anything to get a job, then that job isn’t for you. But sometimes in this wild and wacky universe, things just don’t go down as they should; it’s not the right person for the job who wins, it’s the person who wants it so bad he/she is willing to sell the kids at an auction and will throw in grandma as a bonus.
Kevin McCarthy is that single-minded dog who couldn’t see anything else around him except that tire getting away from him - until it didn’t. For him, nothing else existed except for that tire because, dammit, he earned that tire.
But the dog’s behavior, although regrettable, is understandable. Right? It’s a dog. Kevin McCarthy, on the other hand, is a (pathetic, craven loser of a ) human being. We tend to expect more from humans although, as Kevin has shown us, we probably shouldn’t.
So what happens now? Who the hell knows, except that we know it won’t be good and could be very, very bad.
BUT. Kevin McCarthy got his widdle gavel! WEEEEEEEE!
And in the end, isn’t that all that really matters?
Thus endeth the lesson.
