Special Holiday Issue November 24, 2022
As most of you know we are on vacation this week, enjoying time with family and friends at our annual Thanksgiving Week Family Reunion in Ellicott City, Maryland, near Baltimore.
I wasn’t going to publish an article today, but because this holiday is a day of giving thanks, I had to quickly open up one of my three iPads to do just that. (I actually left my MacBook Pro at home!)
We are so very thankful to all of you for reading our articles, listening to our podcasts, and sharing and supporting our Substack publication.
We are planning for the addition of several new features in the weeks ahead and more massive growth in the months ahead.
This last week and a half has, unfortunately, been full of the news of multiple mass shootings, and at too many family tables this year, there will be empty chairs and very painful memories of their loved ones lost to the gun violence that is endemic in this country. Not surprisingly, the U.S. leads the world in gun ownership and gun violence, which is now the #1 cause of death for young people.
But my family and I are so very grateful that we are all here, still safe and sound. There will be around 25 or so of us around several rented tables at the gorgeous and roomy estate of my sister and brother-in-law.
The politics this year, in so many areas, has been a roller coaster for those of us who follow things closely. The Democrats had some very good wins and some very hurtful losses, but we (and especially Gen Z) held back the “red wave.”
We are working and hoping for the best possible outcome for the runoff senatorial election in Georgia.
But Keith and I live in Michigan, where the Democrats not only held on to all of the top positions with three very strong and uber-talented women and one very effective and very tall man, but we also flipped the entire Michigan state legislature to Blue after 40+ years. Plus, just a couple of days ago, Governor Gretchen Whitmer (known as “Big Gretch” to her friends), nominated a Black woman to our Supreme Court, the first ever.
If you are a Democrat, it’s good to be in Michigan these days.
There are also a lot of things going on that will give us plenty to write and speak about next week, so stay tuned!
But most of all, please have a wonderful holiday if you celebrate.
Look for a special “Black Friday” article tomorrow.
Stay safe, and find as many things as you can to be thankful for, and we’ll be back in full force soon.
Again, Happy Thanksgiving!
Your comments are just right for today's holiday.
