Chaos in the Republican House Leads to Chaos in the U.S
Time is running out and the alarm is sounding.
Special OpEd October 4, 2023
On Tuesday, October 3, 2023, for the first time in American history, the House of Representatives vacated the House Speaker. Kevin McCarthy, who became speaker just nine months ago in January, has been removed from the job he coveted for so long, and said he will not seek another term. It took five days and fifteen votes to make him speaker in the first place.

Matt Gaetz of Florida and the very small group of far-right MAGA Republicans have been threatening McCarthy since the beginning of his speakership. They are angry that McCarthy was forced to work with President Biden and the Democrats to raise the debt ceiling last spring and then worked with Democrats to avoid a government shutdown last weekend. That far-right group does not want Republicans to work with Democrats under any circumstances, even if the American people are greatly harmed by their policies.
The House of Representatives is now in complete chaos and has no leadership in place. The new Speaker Pro Tem, Patrick McHenry of North Carolina, decided that no business will be conducted for the rest of this week. There is a plan to start the process for a new speaker all over again starting next Tuesday.
This means that no progress will be made on voting on the appropriation bills that need to pass to avoid another government shutdown in just six weeks on November 17, one week before the Thanksgiving holiday.
The House will also continue to try to not continue to fund Ukraine, to try to impeach Joe Biden, and make very deep spending cuts in the social programs that help millions of Americans.
They will not care about the negative effects of shutting down the government in November, and what that will do to the American people, and even how that would affect America's allies and strengthen the hands of Putin and China.
Although a few names such as Steve Scalise and Jim Jordan have been floated as candidates for speaker, one of the Republicans in Congress has already decided that he will place the name of Donald Trump in contention for speaker. According to the House rules, the Speaker does not need to be a member of Congress.
Ever since 2010, when the Republicans gained the majority in the House and the far-right "Freedom Caucus" came into power, the goal has been for the Republican minority to take over the entire United States government and re-fashion it into their warped vision for America.
Especially since the Trump administration, it has become obvious that the Republicans are beholden only to Trump, and not to the Constitution. They are not interested in governing, instead just causing chaos and pain to Democrats and liberals, and to policies that actually help the American people. They especially are not interested in any kind of compromise with the Democrats, who they view as their enemies.
Here at "We Are Speaking," we constantly warn against what happens when Republicans are in power at the national and state levels.
We are always reminding our readers and listeners how important it is to vote Democratic, not vote 3rd party or decide not to vote at all.
Please stop falling for the constant attacks against Joe Biden because of his age and the attacks against Kamala Harris because of her race.
There is no 3rd party candidate who can run this country, not Cornel
West, not Robert Kennedy, Jr., not Marianne Williamson.
Remember that not only our democracy, but the democracies around the world are in extreme danger.
