California Isn’t the Only Thing Burning
To date, no Republicans have offered statements of care or offers of assistance to Blue California.

Imagine your entire block is on fire, but there is no fire department and no water. Now, imagine California in that situation. Now imagine it’s the entire country on fire.
Yeah. That’s where we’re headed.
Honestly, I’m still waiting for the Republicans to blame the California fires on space lasers created by Socialist Democrats as part of a massive conspiracy involving Liz Cheney and the Canadians – oh, and Greenland, too - designed to…
Oh, the hell with it. I can’t possibly make the Republican response to this tragedy any worse than it is.
Wait. Yes, I can.
Because for the Republicans, the fires that continue to devastate southern California aren’t seen as a tragedy but as an opportunity: an opportunity to prove just how sick they really are for those who still believe that the oncoming train of the Trump presidency won’t be that bad. And the man hasn’t even been sworn in yet.
So far, the only good news about the fires is that they occurred while Joe Biden was still president because Biden still believes that if any part of the country is burning to the ground – whether it’s part of the country that voted for him or not - he has a responsibility to put the fire out. No quid pro quo. No negotiations or taking communities hostage, demanding that they fall to their knees in obeisance to Dear Leader before sending help. It almost sounds quaint, but President Biden still believes that a United States president should be president of the entire United States, not just those states that shout a fearful Hosannah In The Highest!” whenever they hear his name.
President Biden believes in putting out fires that threaten American lives. Period.
After Inauguration Day, climate change will still be real, and there will be many more fires to come. And floods. And crippling snow storms. And those are just the weather-related catastrophes we need to brace for. But President Biden gave his farewell address on Wednesday night, and we would do well to remember one of the last things he said as we descend into four years or more of Trump’s madness unleashed:
“Now it’s up to you to stand guard.”

Everything will still be real, except the government.
